Rajkumar, a 35 year old contract labourer working in the mines of Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), a public sector enterprise which operates open-pit lignite mine in Neyveli (Tamil Nadu), was shot dead on Monday (March 17,2014) by Central Industrial Security Force personnel. Following this incident huge protest broke out in Neyveli.

With the strike of the Pradeep Laminator workers (Pune) entering the 80th day, the negotiations with the management has once again failed. One of the senior left labour activist and lawyer – Vaishali Sareen has started an indefinte fast on 14th March in support of workers demands.

The effects of the environmental crisis are forcing workers and the poor to resist throughout the world, as the poorest states are hit hardest.
