We the trade union and social activists representing different national organisations in Pakistan as the neighbouring member country of the South Asian Association of Regional Corporation (SAARC), have been paying much attention to the controversy around nuclear power installations across the Palk Straits, in Koodankulam. North East Exodus: Class Unity is the Key!

The following statement is with reference to the very recent incident of many North Eastern people in Bangalore and other cities in Karnataka (and now Chennai, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh) fleeing the city in their thousands to rumours of planned attacks against them after Ramadan in response to the communal violence against Muslims that took place recently in Assam. While rumours are yet to be verified or substantiated and no big instance of violence against the North Eastern community have been reported anywhere in the city so far, there is an added fear especially after the recent flare up of violence by misguided Muslim youth in Mumbai that was largely directed against the media and the police. The violence in Mumbai was deliberately instigated by few reactionary Muslim leaders with false propaganda and doctored images from the recent violence in Assam and alleged killing of Muslims in Myanmar. read more

The four leaders of a cement factory in Lucky Marwat have been arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act on 19th September in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa province. The police have registered a case against 21 union leaders and activists. The police are trying to arrest the other leaders and activists of the union. read more

Defeat the terror of communalism and capitalism

The horrific terror attack in Mumbai on 27 November must be condemned on all counts. It took place at the usually crowded CST railway station and six other prime locations killing at least 140 people (the figures are likely to reach 200 or more) and injuring hundreds. The “Deccan Mujahidin” an unknown Islamic terror group, has claimed responsibility. read more
