In solidarity with the the anti-POSCO struggle in Orissa.
A heroic struggle led by the Posco Prathirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS) for the last 5 years is at a crucial stage, a committee constituted by the Central Government has given a majority recommendation saying POSCO is illegal, which vindicates the stand of the PPSS.
But both the central govt. and the Orissa govt. are hell bent upon salvaging the project by hook or crook. Manmohan Singh who is about to visit to Seoul on the occasion of the G20 meet next week is sure to ensure this. But the Meena Gupta Committee (barring Meena Gupta) report has given a damning verdict against POSCO. Mass pressure and solidarity actions are needed to see the execution of the majority recommendations.
The issue of POSCO becomes all the more important to us in Karnataka as the state government here has already welcomed POSCO to set up the plant and the company has done an exploratory survey and set up an office in Bangalore!
Peoples’ Solidarity Concerns is organizing a protest demo demanding implementation of the majority recommendations to see the South Korean steel giant POSCO to get out of India.
