Class<\/strong> solidarity<\/strong> is<\/strong> urgently<\/strong> needed<\/strong> NOW!!<\/strong><\/p>\n

In what appeared like a crushing blow to the militant 33 day struggle of the Maruti Suzuki workers at Manesar plant in Gurgaon (Haryana), wherein the union leadership came under enormous pressure from the Suzuki bosses, Haryana government and lamentingly can we say the despicable role of the leadership of the\u00a0 Central Trade Unions (TU’s) to sign a so called “truce agreement” that \u00a0 has once again forced the workers to launch strike action due to the inevitable clash with the management. This arm twisted \u201cagreement” far from being a truce was in fact a coercion on the workers, forcing them to sign the hated ‘good conduct bond’, with the management once again refusing to recognize their union and the only thing the management appeared to concede was the taking back some of the suspended workers.<\/p>\n

Even<\/span> before<\/span> the<\/span><\/em> ink<\/span><\/em> on<\/span> the<\/span> agreement<\/span><\/em> had<\/span> dried,<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> management<\/span><\/em> began<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> strike<\/span><\/em> back<\/span><\/em> with<\/span><\/em> a<\/span><\/em> vengeance.<\/span><\/em> First<\/span><\/em> up<\/span><\/em> were<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> 1200<\/span><\/em> odd<\/span><\/em> contractual<\/span><\/em> labourers<\/span><\/em> who<\/span><\/em> were<\/span><\/em> refused<\/span><\/em> entry<\/span><\/em> into<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> plant<\/span><\/em> when<\/span><\/em> they<\/span><\/em> turned<\/span><\/em> up<\/span><\/em> for<\/span><\/em> work<\/span><\/em> because<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> their<\/span><\/em> role<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> strike.<\/span><\/em> Next<\/span><\/em> came<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> harassment<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> permanent<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> who<\/span><\/em> were<\/span><\/em> all<\/span><\/em> shifted<\/span><\/em> round<\/span><\/em> from<\/span><\/em> their<\/span><\/em> usual<\/span><\/em> workplaces<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> accusing<\/span><\/em> them<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> going<\/span><\/em> slow.<\/span><\/em> And<\/span><\/em> then<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> bus<\/span><\/em> services<\/span><\/em> was<\/span><\/em> intentionally<\/span><\/em> suspended<\/span><\/em> with<\/span><\/em> consequences<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> turning<\/span><\/em> late<\/span><\/em> for<\/span><\/em> work<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> losing<\/span><\/em> Rs.<\/span><\/em> 1500<\/span><\/em> as<\/span><\/em> per<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> new<\/span><\/em> rules.<\/span><\/em> All<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> signs<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> symptoms<\/span><\/em> appeared<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> indicate<\/span><\/em> that<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> management<\/span><\/em> was<\/span><\/em> hell<\/span><\/em> bent<\/span><\/em> on<\/span><\/em> crushing<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> unity<\/span><\/em> forged<\/span><\/em> among<\/span><\/em> all<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> sections<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> \u2013 <\/span><\/em>permanent,<\/span><\/em> contractual<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> trainee<\/span><\/em> workers,<\/span><\/em> during<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> course<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> strike.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Workers United Can Never Be Defeated<\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

If<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> management<\/span><\/em> thought<\/span><\/em> that<\/span><\/em> they<\/span><\/em> could<\/span><\/em> simply<\/span><\/em> browbeat <\/span><\/em>the<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> accept<\/span><\/em> their<\/span><\/em> diktats<\/span><\/em> like<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> past,<\/span><\/em> they<\/span><\/em> were<\/span><\/em> wrong!<\/span><\/em> In<\/span><\/em> a<\/span><\/em> show<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> unity<\/span><\/em> with<\/span><\/em> their<\/span><\/em> sacked<\/span><\/em> working<\/span><\/em> class<\/span><\/em> brethren<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> likely<\/span><\/em> fate<\/span><\/em> that<\/span><\/em> is<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> store<\/span><\/em> for<\/span><\/em> them<\/span><\/em> next,<\/span><\/em> more<\/span><\/em> than<\/span><\/em> 2000<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> at<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> plant<\/span><\/em> struck<\/span><\/em> work<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> have<\/span><\/em> been<\/span><\/em> staging<\/span><\/em> a<\/span><\/em> sit<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> protest<\/span><\/em> since<\/span><\/em> 7<\/span><\/em>th<\/sup><\/span><\/em> October,<\/span><\/em> just<\/span><\/em> days<\/span><\/em> after<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> 33<\/span><\/em> day<\/span><\/em> strike<\/span><\/em> had<\/span><\/em> ended,<\/span><\/em> demanding<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> reinstatement<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> contract<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> suspended<\/span><\/em> workers,<\/span><\/em> end<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> harassment<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> restoration<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> bus<\/span><\/em> services.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

What’s<\/span><\/em> more<\/span><\/em> surprising<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> welcoming<\/span><\/em> was<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> were<\/span><\/em> not<\/span><\/em> alone<\/span><\/em> this<\/span><\/em> time,<\/span><\/em> they<\/span><\/em> were<\/span><\/em> joined<\/span><\/em> by<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> four <\/span><\/em>other<\/span><\/em> Suzuki<\/span><\/em> plants<\/span><\/em> (totally 8000 in all) <\/span><\/em>and<\/span><\/em> few<\/span><\/em> others<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> area<\/span><\/em> who<\/span><\/em> have<\/span><\/em> all<\/span><\/em> shown<\/span><\/em> solidarity<\/span><\/em> with<\/span><\/em> the <\/span><\/em>struggling<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> by<\/span><\/em> staging<\/span><\/em> sit<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> protests,<\/span><\/em> which<\/span><\/em> have<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> turn<\/span><\/em> affected<\/span><\/em> production<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> those<\/span><\/em> plants.<\/span><\/em> While<\/span><\/em> reports<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> media<\/span><\/em> are <\/span><\/em>abound<\/span><\/em> with<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> alleged<\/span><\/em> sabotage<\/span><\/em> by<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> fire<\/span><\/em> shots<\/span><\/em> being heard <\/span><\/em>inside<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> plant,<\/span><\/em> whatever<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> manufactured<\/span><\/em> truth<\/span><\/em> behind<\/span><\/em> these<\/span><\/em> allegations,<\/span><\/em> it<\/span><\/em> is<\/span><\/em> without<\/span><\/em> a shred of <\/span><\/em>doubt<\/span><\/em> that<\/span><\/em> it<\/span><\/em> is<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> Suzuki<\/span><\/em> management<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> connivance<\/span><\/em> with<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> Corrupt<\/span><\/em> government<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> Haryana<\/span><\/em> that<\/span><\/em> is<\/span><\/em> solely<\/span><\/em> responsible<\/span><\/em> for<\/span><\/em> creating<\/span><\/em> such<\/span><\/em> a<\/span><\/em> disastrous <\/span><\/em>situation.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The Executive, Judiciary & the Police\u00a0 are serving the interests of the Maruti Suzuki bosses<\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

And now armed with a high court order directing all the workers to leave the factory premises, in a blatantly partisan manner, the Haryana government have deployed more than 2500 police force<\/span><\/em> who have virtually occupied the plant and cutting workers access to all basic necessities like canteen and water, besides blocking their access to the toilet. This shows to what abyss can the state machinery: government (both state and central), bureaucracy (labour department), the judiciary and the police (armed bodies of the state) are prepared to stoop\u00a0 to crush the workers collective action at the behest of the company management. While the tense stand off continues, it is merely a question of when the police will begin the final crackdown on the workers.<\/p>\n

The strategy of the Central Trade Union leadership is utterly wanting!<\/strong><\/p>\n

With<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> Maruti Suzuki <\/strong><\/span><\/em>union<\/strong><\/span><\/em> leadership<\/strong><\/span><\/em> once<\/strong><\/span><\/em> again<\/strong><\/span><\/em> being<\/strong><\/span><\/em> forced<\/strong><\/span><\/em> to<\/strong><\/span><\/em> consult <\/strong><\/span><\/em>all<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> central<\/strong><\/span><\/em> TU’s<\/strong><\/span><\/em> across<\/strong><\/span><\/em> party<\/strong><\/span><\/em> divide<\/strong><\/span><\/em>, who unfortunately have no vision except their dry stance on maintaining \u201cgood industrial relations\u201d. While all the central Tu’s are <\/strong><\/span><\/em>once<\/strong><\/span><\/em> again<\/strong><\/span><\/em> extending<\/strong><\/span><\/em> support<\/strong><\/span><\/em> but<\/strong><\/span><\/em> ideologically<\/strong><\/span><\/em> they<\/strong><\/span><\/em> are<\/strong><\/span><\/em> with<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> bosses<\/strong><\/span><\/em> to<\/strong><\/span><\/em> see<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> end<\/strong><\/span><\/em> of<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> militancy,<\/strong><\/span><\/em> lest<\/strong><\/span><\/em> their<\/strong><\/span><\/em> accepted<\/strong><\/span><\/em> role<\/strong><\/span><\/em> of<\/strong><\/span><\/em> negotiating<\/strong><\/span><\/em> \u201c<\/strong><\/span><\/em>peace<\/strong><\/span><\/em>\u201d <\/strong><\/span><\/em>is<\/strong><\/span><\/em> threatened<\/strong><\/span><\/em> and<\/strong><\/span><\/em> their<\/strong><\/span><\/em> enormous<\/strong><\/span><\/em> clout<\/strong><\/span><\/em> and<\/strong><\/span><\/em> privileges<\/strong><\/span><\/em> as<\/strong><\/span><\/em> \u201c<\/strong><\/span><\/em>leaders<\/strong><\/span><\/em>\u201d <\/strong><\/span><\/em>of<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> working<\/strong><\/span><\/em> class<\/strong><\/span><\/em> is<\/strong><\/span><\/em> done<\/strong><\/span><\/em> away<\/strong><\/span><\/em> with<\/strong><\/span><\/em> .<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

I<\/span><\/em>t<\/span><\/em> is<\/span><\/em> time<\/span><\/em> for<\/span><\/em> both<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> union<\/span><\/em> leadership<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> take<\/span><\/em> stock<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> situation<\/span><\/em> by<\/span><\/em> learning from <\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> mistakes<\/span><\/em> from <\/span><\/em>the<\/span><\/em> past.<\/span><\/em> One,<\/span><\/em> however<\/span><\/em> long<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> are<\/span><\/em> willing<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> stick<\/span><\/em> their<\/span><\/em> heads<\/span><\/em> out<\/span><\/em> whether<\/span><\/em> for<\/span><\/em> 1<\/span><\/em> day<\/span><\/em> or<\/span><\/em> 100<\/span><\/em> days,<\/span><\/em> given<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> company’s<\/span><\/em> financial<\/span><\/em> strength,<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> management<\/span><\/em> is<\/span><\/em> basically<\/span><\/em> looking<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> tire<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> workers’<\/span><\/em> out.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

We<\/span><\/em> have<\/span><\/em> a<\/span><\/em> rich<\/span><\/em> history<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> Indian<\/span><\/em> working<\/span><\/em> class<\/span><\/em> waging<\/span><\/em> heroic<\/span><\/em> battles,<\/span><\/em> but<\/span><\/em> yet<\/span><\/em> failing<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> clinch<\/span><\/em> victories;<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> 18<\/span><\/em> month<\/span><\/em> strike<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> 250,000<\/span><\/em> Bombay<\/span><\/em> Textile<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> 1980’s<\/span><\/em> is<\/span><\/em> replete<\/span><\/em> with<\/span><\/em> precious<\/span><\/em> lessons<\/span><\/em> for<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> working<\/span><\/em> class<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> present <\/span><\/em>generation.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Secondly,<\/span><\/em> as of now <\/span><\/em>this<\/span><\/em> is<\/span><\/em> no<\/span><\/em> isolated<\/span><\/em> issue<\/span><\/em> confined<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> a<\/span><\/em> single<\/span><\/em> factory<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> Gurgoan<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> applies<\/span><\/em> not<\/span><\/em> only<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> factories<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> Gurgaon<\/span><\/em> but<\/span><\/em> extends<\/span><\/em> throughout<\/span><\/em> India.<\/span><\/em> Whether<\/span><\/em> it<\/span><\/em> is<\/span><\/em> Comstar<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> Chennai<\/span><\/em> (54<\/span><\/em> day<\/span><\/em> strike)<\/span><\/em> or<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> Volvo<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> Bangalore<\/span><\/em> (72<\/span><\/em> days<\/span><\/em> strike<\/span><\/em>) <\/span><\/em>or<\/span><\/em> power-loom<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> Punjab<\/span><\/em> (more<\/span><\/em> than<\/span><\/em> 20<\/span><\/em> days<\/span><\/em> now),<\/span><\/em> it<\/span><\/em> is<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> same<\/span><\/em> old <\/span><\/em>story<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> exploitation<\/span><\/em> from <\/span><\/em>auto-mobiles<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> garments,<\/span><\/em> textiles<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> others,<\/span><\/em> under<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> garb<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> (capitalist)<\/span><\/em> globalization<\/span><\/em> that<\/span><\/em> is<\/span><\/em> hell<\/span><\/em> bent<\/span><\/em> on<\/span><\/em> transferring<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> effects<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> deep<\/span><\/em> economic<\/span><\/em> crisis<\/span><\/em> faced<\/span><\/em> by<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> developed<\/span><\/em> world<\/span><\/em> which<\/span><\/em> is<\/span><\/em> beginning<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> make<\/span><\/em> inroads<\/span><\/em> into<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> fragile<\/span><\/em> success<\/span><\/em> story<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> India,<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> bosses<\/span><\/em> here<\/span><\/em> are<\/span><\/em> panicking<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> maintain<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> make<\/span><\/em> their<\/span><\/em> profits<\/span><\/em> at<\/span><\/em> any<\/span><\/em> cost.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The<\/span> police<\/span> crackdown<\/span> on<\/span> the<\/span> workers<\/span> of Suzuki need <\/span>not<\/span> be<\/span> inevitable,<\/span> it<\/span> can<\/span> be<\/span> stopped.<\/span> B<\/span>ut<\/span> this<\/span> will<\/span> happen<\/span> only<\/span> when<\/span> the<\/span> workers<\/span> as<\/span> a<\/span> class<\/span> stand<\/span> up<\/span> and<\/span> fight.<\/span> It<\/span> can<\/span> be<\/span> stopped<\/span> by<\/span> a<\/span> call<\/span> and mobilising <\/span>for<\/span> an<\/span> industry<\/span> wide<\/span> mass <\/span>action,<\/span> not<\/span> just<\/span> confined<\/span> to<\/span> Gurgoan<\/span> or the Haryana state and Delhi <\/span>but<\/span> a<\/span> nationwide<\/span> industrial<\/span> action<\/span> combined<\/span> with<\/span> solidarity<\/span> and <\/span>support<\/span> from<\/span> all <\/span>major<\/span> auto-mobile<\/span> workers<\/span> unions<\/span> from<\/span> across<\/span> the<\/span> world, especially from the advanced capitalist world<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the event of a likely crackdown on the workers by the police and company hired goons at the behest of the management vis a vis government and also given the violent history of trying to suppress workers’ struggle as in the Honda workers struggle in 2005, it is time for the workers and the union leadership to prepare themselves for such an eventuality by setting up democratically organized workers’ defence committees to safeguard the workers’ rights and protect themselves, their health and safety. <\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Only<\/span><\/em> then<\/span><\/em> will<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> company<\/span><\/em> management<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> their<\/span><\/em> sycophants<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> government<\/span><\/em> be<\/span><\/em> brought<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> negotiating<\/span><\/em> table.<\/span><\/em> Given<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> strength<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> resources<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> Central<\/span><\/em> TU’s,<\/span><\/em> this<\/span><\/em> is<\/span><\/em> possible.<\/span><\/em> But<\/span><\/em> unfortunately<\/span><\/em> for<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> workers,<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> central<\/span><\/em> TU’s<\/span><\/em> seem<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> be<\/span><\/em> caught<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> a<\/span><\/em> time<\/span><\/em> warp<\/span><\/em> with<\/span><\/em> their<\/span><\/em> own<\/span><\/em> rustic mode <\/span><\/em>of<\/span><\/em> functioning<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> an<\/span><\/em> old<\/span><\/em> leadership<\/span><\/em> that<\/span><\/em> hardly<\/span><\/em> matches<\/span><\/em> with<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> energy<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> militancy<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> this<\/span><\/em> newer<\/span><\/em> generations<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> that<\/span><\/em> are<\/span><\/em> coming<\/span><\/em> out<\/span><\/em> now<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> fight<\/span><\/em> for<\/span><\/em> their<\/span><\/em> basic<\/span><\/em> rights<\/span><\/em> as<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> class.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The<\/span><\/em> New<\/span><\/em> Socialist<\/span><\/em> Alternative<\/span><\/em> (CWI<\/span><\/em> \u2013 <\/span><\/em>India)<\/span><\/em> unequivocally <\/span><\/em>supports<\/span><\/em> all<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> main<\/span><\/em> demands<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> i.e.,<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> immediately<\/span><\/em> take<\/span><\/em> back<\/span><\/em> all<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> suspended<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> as<\/span><\/em> well<\/span><\/em> as<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> contractual<\/span><\/em> workers,<\/span><\/em> stop<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> harassment<\/span><\/em> workers,<\/span><\/em> restoration<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> Transport <\/span><\/em>services,<\/span><\/em> recognition<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> their<\/span><\/em> union<\/span><\/em> both<\/span><\/em> by<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> government<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> management,<\/span><\/em> better<\/span><\/em> working<\/span><\/em> conditions,<\/span><\/em> making<\/span><\/em> all<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> contractual<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> permanent,<\/span><\/em> stricter<\/span><\/em> implementation<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> labour<\/span><\/em> laws<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> so<\/span><\/em> forth.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The <\/span><\/em>New Socialist Alternative<\/strong><\/span><\/em> along with its International, <\/span><\/em>Committee for a Workers’ International (CWI)<\/strong><\/span><\/em> recognises that the strike of the Maruti Suzuki Workers is a significant development for the working class as a whole in India, we envision this strike as the beginnings of a new churning that is bound to develop further at an all India level. We the New Socialist Alternative <\/strong>and the CWI <\/strong>will be campaigning for solidarity and support among Trade Unions, fighting organisations and peoples’ movements for the Maruti Suzuki workers struggle through our forces internationally.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

We need to build powerful, democratic Trade Unions !<\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

But<\/span><\/em> this<\/span><\/em> in<\/span><\/em> itself<\/span><\/em> is<\/span><\/em> not<\/span><\/em> enough.<\/span><\/em> All<\/span><\/em> this<\/span><\/em> must<\/span><\/em> be<\/span><\/em> accompanied<\/span><\/em> by<\/span><\/em> democratization<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> unions<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> a<\/span><\/em> newer<\/span><\/em> leadership,<\/span><\/em> extending<\/span><\/em> all<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> way<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> top,<\/span><\/em> particularly<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> Central<\/span><\/em> TU’s.<\/span><\/em> Trade<\/span><\/em> Union<\/span><\/em> federations<\/span><\/em> must<\/span><\/em> unionise<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> through<\/span><\/em> a<\/span><\/em> mass<\/span><\/em> mobilization<\/span><\/em> campaign<\/span><\/em> based<\/span><\/em> on<\/span><\/em> grass<\/span><\/em> roots<\/span><\/em> democracy<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> independent<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> collective<\/span><\/em> decision<\/span><\/em> making<\/span><\/em> powers<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> at<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> factory,<\/span><\/em> city\/<\/span><\/em> town,<\/span><\/em> state<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> national<\/span><\/em> level<\/span><\/em> and<\/span><\/em> prepare<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> for<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> coming<\/span><\/em> period<\/span><\/em> against<\/span><\/em> capitalism<\/span><\/em> which<\/span><\/em> is<\/span><\/em> crisis<\/span><\/em> ridden<\/span><\/em> Internationally,<\/span><\/em> which<\/span><\/em> is<\/span><\/em> seeking<\/span><\/em> to<\/span><\/em> off<\/span><\/em> load<\/span><\/em> it<\/span><\/em> burdens<\/span><\/em> on<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> workers<\/span><\/em> of<\/span><\/em> the<\/span><\/em> neo<\/span><\/em> – <\/span><\/em>colonial<\/span><\/em> countries.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Above<\/strong><\/span><\/em> all<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> working<\/strong><\/span><\/em> class<\/strong><\/span><\/em> in<\/strong><\/span><\/em> struggle<\/strong><\/span><\/em> is<\/strong><\/span><\/em> bound<\/strong><\/span><\/em> to<\/strong><\/span><\/em> learn<\/strong><\/span><\/em> and<\/strong><\/span><\/em> come<\/strong><\/span><\/em> to<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> conclusion<\/strong><\/span><\/em> and<\/strong><\/span><\/em> see<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> need<\/strong><\/span><\/em> for<\/strong><\/span><\/em> a<\/strong><\/span><\/em> New<\/strong><\/span><\/em> Mass<\/strong><\/span><\/em> party<\/strong><\/span><\/em> of<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> Working<\/strong><\/span><\/em> C<\/strong><\/span><\/em>lass<\/strong><\/span><\/em> people<\/strong><\/span><\/em> with<\/strong><\/span><\/em> a<\/strong><\/span><\/em> clear<\/strong><\/span><\/em> programme<\/strong><\/span><\/em> of<\/strong><\/span><\/em> alternative<\/strong><\/span><\/em> to<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> present<\/strong><\/span><\/em> profit<\/strong><\/span><\/em> driven,<\/strong><\/span><\/em> coercive<\/strong><\/span><\/em> and<\/strong><\/span><\/em> oppressive<\/strong><\/span><\/em> system<\/strong><\/span><\/em> of<\/strong><\/span><\/em> capitalism.<\/strong><\/span><\/em> Such<\/strong><\/span><\/em> a<\/strong><\/span><\/em> mass<\/strong><\/span><\/em> party<\/strong><\/span><\/em> needs<\/strong><\/span><\/em> to<\/strong><\/span><\/em> be <\/strong><\/span><\/em>built<\/strong><\/span><\/em> immediately<\/strong><\/span><\/em> which<\/strong><\/span><\/em> can<\/strong><\/span><\/em> take<\/strong><\/span><\/em> along<\/strong><\/span><\/em> with<\/strong><\/span><\/em> it<\/strong><\/span><\/em> all<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> oppressed<\/strong><\/span><\/em> people;<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> rural<\/strong><\/span><\/em> peasantry,<\/strong><\/span><\/em> urban<\/strong><\/span><\/em> poor,<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> oppressed<\/strong><\/span><\/em> castes<\/strong><\/span><\/em> and<\/strong><\/span><\/em> genders<\/strong><\/span><\/em> which<\/strong><\/span><\/em> can<\/strong><\/span><\/em> unite<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> numerous<\/strong><\/span><\/em> scattered<\/strong><\/span><\/em> peoples<\/strong><\/span><\/em> struggles<\/strong><\/span><\/em> that<\/strong><\/span><\/em> are<\/strong><\/span><\/em> manifesting<\/strong><\/span><\/em> in<\/strong><\/span><\/em> various<\/strong><\/span><\/em> and<\/strong><\/span><\/em> peculiar<\/strong><\/span><\/em> ways<\/strong><\/span><\/em> against<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> system<\/strong><\/span><\/em> of <\/strong><\/span><\/em>private<\/strong><\/span><\/em> profit,<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the<\/strong><\/span><\/em> enemy<\/strong><\/span><\/em> of<\/strong><\/span><\/em> our<\/strong><\/span><\/em> all<\/strong><\/span><\/em> oppressed<\/strong><\/span><\/em> classes<\/strong><\/span><\/em> i.e.,<\/strong><\/span><\/em> CAPITALISM.<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
