The following leaflet (below) is being brought out to protest the tragic death of Savita Halappanavar in Ireland due to denial of abortion on religious grounds. The protest in Bangalore (India) will be held on 21st November at Town Hall between 5:30-7PM and is being organized by the New Socialist Alternative (CWI-India), Tamil Solidarity, May 17 Movement, Campaign to Reclaim Democracy (CRD) and other progressive groups.
This protest is in solidarity with the International Day of Action for Legal Abortion in Ireland following the tragic and unnecessary death of Savita Halappanavar.
Apart from the picket at the Irish Parliament- The Dail. Pickets will take place at Irish Embassies or central city locations across the world to register our disgust at the death of this woman due to the ambiguity around the issue in Ireland. Ireland’s abortion laws are antiquated and must be changed. This would never have happened if women had the right to choose in Ireland.
These obscurantist practices even in this modern age of the 21st century is despicable. Abortion, should be the choice of the woman who conceives and no other agency (state or religion) can have a say in it.
