Protest Against Narendra Dabholkar’s Murder

To protest against the open daylight murder of the rationalist – Narendra Dabholkar in Pune (Maharashtra), New Socialist Alternative (CWI-India) along with various other progressive political grouping under the banner of the Peoples’ Solidarity Concerns – Bangalore staged a protest at Town Hall in Bangalore on 26th Aug. The protesters also condemned the attack on the students of FTII{{1}} and KKM{{2}} activists in Pune by BJP/ RSS{{3}} student wing – ABVP{{4}}. On May Day 2013, New Socialist Alternative – Bangalore Branch (CWI-India) and members of the May 17 Movement intervened with a Kannada leaflet by trying to reach out to the working people across the city.

Our leaflet highlighted the growing disparity between the working people and the elite, which is no better than it was 65 years before independence. The income gap between the CEO’s of companies and Lok Sabha members as against the 836 million people of India who earn not more than Rs.20 a day is something that the Indian ruling class wish to simply brush aside. read more

HCL Recruits Stage Hunger Strike

resizedimageAbout 100 HCL fresh recruits who have been denied jobs by HCL for about a year now staged a day long hunger strike on 30th March at Freedom Park (protest point) in Bangalore. All the promises of joining dates made by the company HR have proven to be false all along and it remains to be seen whether the labour department does indeed take action against HCL as per its 5th April deadline. According to the Press release statement by the HCL recruits, police had denied them permission to protest outside HCL premises. The protest was supported by AIITEA, Free Software Movement and IT/ ITES Employees center, along with the some of the Central Trade Unions like AITUC & CITU. read more

A protest was held at the Town Hall in Bangalore against the forced land acquisition by Posco in Orissa and the burtal violence by corporate goons and the state upon children and women.

Kaveri Rajaraman, an activist from Bangalore, spoke about Posco’s demand for a captive port in Orissa and how the forced land acquisition would affect the livelihood of the people earning through beetle vineyard and cashew plantation within that region. She spoke about the protesters from the villages of Jagatsinghpur district who are carrying out their struggle, about their methods of involving their children and creating a protective circle around the women and men at the core. She also talked about how well organised the protesters are and how well educated everyone is about the issues that concern them. read more
